On 14 June 2026, GT Coatings celebrated its 72nd birthday — a proud milestone for a North East business built on quality, reliability and long-standing customer relationships.

Our story began on 14 June 1954, when the business was first incorporated as Woodhouse and Stephenson Limited. Over the decades, the company evolved with the industries it served, later becoming Superior Coatings Limited before taking on the GT Coatings name in 1999.

Throughout that journey, the purpose of the business has remained the same: to support manufacturers with dependable industrial coating, metal finishing and surface preparation services that help protect, enhance and extend the life of their products.

A key part of the GT Coatings story is the Turnbull family. Geoff Turnbull played a central role in shaping the company’s reputation for quality workmanship, practical problem-solving and customer care. In 2011, Geoff handed the reins over to his son Nick Turnbull, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the business.
